The new system enables manufacturers to print product codes directly on bottles or vials, which can save time and money.

A new inspection system for pharmaceutical packaging offers manufacturers the ability to ensure serialization and aggregation for vials and bottles ranging from 10 to 110 millimeters in diameter.

The T60 Integrated 360 Series from Mettler-Toledo PCE uses six image sensors to provide a 360-degree view of the container, ensuring small product or serialization codes printed directly on the bottle or applied label can be read. The ability to print product codes directly onto bottles and vials rather than on cartons saves time and money by reducing the number of labeling process and systems that must be maintained.

The T60 Integrated 360 Series can detect codes that are smeared, misprinted, or otherwise unreadable, reducing the chance of recalls down the road.

“It is a real challenge to be able to read smaller codes, and companies often have to introduce specialist product handling, print onto secondary packaging or onto the top of the lid to do so,” Mettler-Toledo Market Manager Marco Pelka said in a press release. “With minimal disruption, pharmaceutical companies can now print small codes directly onto individual bottles, and the T60 Series systems will inspect these codes for machine-readability, as well as verifying them for ongoing traceability. Whether they want to serialize individual bottles or extend this into aggregation of products into secondary packaging such as boxes containing several bottles, the T60 Series gives them those capabilities.”

The T60 Integrated 360 Series offers models for both 0.35 mm and 0.2 mm module size inspection.
